Are you a dynamic out-the-box thinker? Are you creative and vibrant? Do you want to use your own talent, experience and interests together with the specialised skills and techniques you will gain at ELMI to enter into the field of Graphic Design? The ELMI programme focuses on web, animation and graphic design that will enable you to complete a design project from the conceptual phase right through to the final product.

 What do I need to get in?

  • National Senior Certificate (Matric) or a relevant National Certificate (N4) or an equivalent qualification
  • Computer User Skills
  • A successful interview
  • A good command of the English language

 What certification do I get?

After successful completion of the first year of study, you will be awarded a Higher Certificate in Graphic Design (NQF L5). This will give you entrance into the second year of study and at the end of which you will be awarded an Advanced Certificate in Graphic Design (NQF L6).

 What design software is used?

  • Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
  • Animate, Dreamweaver, After Effects
  • 3-D Studio Max
  • Corel Draw (introduction)

 How will I be assessed?

Throughout the year design briefs are issued to students. The briefs will be project managed to completion against tight deadlines. Continuous and formative assessment practises are utilised, and a final summative assessment and moderation process takes place at the end of the academic year.

 What career opportunities does it open for me?

Visual communication skills in Graphic Design are highly sought after in fields related to the print and design industry. This qualification launches you into careers such as graphic design, web or animation design, layout design, packaging design, set design, interior space design, product design, multi-media design, stage design, or one of many opportunities in advertising and marketing.

 Where will the classes be held?

The course will be run at our East London Campus at 231 Upper Oxford Street, Southernwood. Off-street parking is available in the evenings.
